"Infinite motion for the future"
InfiMotion Technology is a leading developer, manufacturer, and distributor of high-performance electric drive units for fully electric vehicles. We cover the entire value chain, from production software to individual components. Since our inception, we've experienced rapid growth and have consistently delivered outstanding results in technological innovation. InfiMotion Technology has enhanced the influence of the industry and enlightened new ideas for the future development of the electric drive field.
The headquarters is situated in Wuxi, China and in June 2022, we launched our Swedish office with the goal of establishing local manufacturing. The InfiMotion team has been responsible for over millions sold units to date, including the European market.
Title Thesis: Impact of Dynamic Gate Drivers on 2 in 1 System level efficiency of Electric Drive Units
Background:
An EDU is composed of an inverter, an electric machine (EM), and a transmission. A critical component in the EDU is the inverter, which converts DC power from the battery to AC power for the electric motor. Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFETs have emerged as a promising technology for EV inverters due to their superior switching characteristics and lower losses compared to traditional silicon devices. However, the fast switching speeds of SiC MOSFETs present challenges, including voltage overshoots, current spikes, and electromagnetic interference (EMI). These issues can negatively impact inverter efficiency and overall system performance. Dynamic gate drivers (DGDs) have been proposed as a solution to mitigate these problems while maintaining the benefits of SiC MOSFETs.
Scope:
This thesis aims to investigate virtually via simulation models, the impact of dynamic gate drivers on inverter and electric motor efficiency and performance in EV applications.
The primary objectives are:
- Design and implement circuit models for a novel dynamic gate driver for SiC MOSFETs
- Build Inverter models and analyse the effects of DGDs on switching losses and EMI in SiC based inverters
- Develop EM models and evaluate the impact of DGDs on electric motor efficiency and performance
- Develop optimization strategies for DGDs to maximize 2in1 system level powertrain efficiency and evaluate the impact on homologation cycles
Prerequisites:
- Master student in Electrical Engineering, Electromobility, or similar
- Ability to take initiative, work independently with good communication skills
- Good knowledge of power electronics, inverters, and electric machines
- Good knowledge of modelling and simulation of electrical systems and controls
Starting date:
January 2025. The duration of the thesis work is 20 weeks.
